This brings to mind another game that seems impossibly far off: The Elder Scrolls 6. The Elder Scrolls 6 was also announced in 2018, just a month before Digimon Survive in fact, though this was done to assure fans that the game would arrive eventually - but not before Starfield. Since then, little news has been released, and it feels like the game’s release date is a long time away. The Elder Scrolls 6 and Digimon Survive share a narrative of constantly being pushed further and further away.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Is A Long Way Off
Fans will recall that The Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed after Starfield at Bethesda’s E3 2018 conference. Right away, it was said the game wouldn’t be coming out until after Starfield. Rumors involving a trademark dispute over the term “Redfall,” which is widely thought to be the subtitle for Elder Scrolls 6, suggested the game could have a 2021 release window. That said, industry insider Tyler McVicker believes a 2026-2027 window is more likely.
It’s looking like that may be the case, as Starfield was given a release date at the E3 2021 Microsoft conference: November 11, 2022. Furthermore, later interviews with Bethesda’s Todd Howard and Xbox’s Phil Spencer confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in its “design phase,” and will not come out until after the new Fable - which also does not have a release window. The 2026 prediction is sounding more likely by the month, and that means Elder Scrolls fans are in for a long wait.
Digimon Survive Keeps Getting Delayed
Digimon Survive had a humble start compared to The Elder Scrolls 6, but its release date feels just as distant. It was revealed in the July 2018 issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump, and a 2019 release window was provided in the coming months. It was delayed to 2020 halfway through that year, and then on July 29, 2020, Toei Animation Europe said Survive would release for European audiences in January 2021. This was quickly removed from its website.
Come October 15, 2020, it was officially announced that the release date of the game was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent financial report from Digimon owner Toei Animation implies Survive was delayed once again to Q3 2022, meaning it could come out roughly four years after its announcement.
Digimon Survive has another similarity to The Elder Scrolls 6. To tide Digimon fans over, a collection containing both Cyber Sleuth games titled Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition was released in October 2019. This mirrors the upcoming November 11 release of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, another repackage of Skyrim coming to all platforms with curated mods attached. It seems these brands need some love while their next big games are in development, and that’s not addressing the continuing seasons of the Digimon anime and expansions for The Elder Scrolls Online. Media is in place to tide fans over, but until Digimon Survive and The Elder Scrolls 6 come out for real, fans are going to need to tough out this drought.
Digimon Survive is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
