Mutombo, second all-time in blocked shots, is receiving treatment in Atlanta, and is “in great spirits,” according to the statement.
“NBA Global Ambassador and Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor," the league said in the statement. “He is receiving the best care possible from a collaborative team of specialists in Atlanta and is in great spirits as he begins treatment. Dikembe and his family ask for privacy during this time so they can focus on his care. They are grateful for your prayers and good wishes.”

Dikembe, for his part, finished his career with 3,289 blocks in his 18-year NBA career with the Nuggets, Hawks, 76ers, Nets, Knicks, and Rockets. He was also an eight-time All-Star and four-time Defensive Player of the Year, tied for the most all-time with Ben Wallace.
