The latest Iwata Asks, which focusses exclusively on Pokemon X and Y, features Game Freak director Junichi Masuda and CEO of The Pokemon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara as they are both intellectually probed by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. A number of different questions were asked by Iwata, but one of the biggest revelations came in the form of the reasoning behind the new games’ official titles — clarified by none other than Junichi Masuda.

When Iwata inquired if there was any unease amongst the staff at Game Freak after the names X and Y were decided upon, Masuda admitted that there was a little bit of resistance initially. The Pokemon director went on to state that he consulted a lot of long-time employees who’ve been involved with the series, such as fellow Game Freak director Ken Sugimori, but decided the new naming approach was the right choice.

There’s a lot more change in store for fans than just the names of the forthcoming games, and the latest Iwata Asks is filled to bursting with new and interesting information regarding Pokemon X and Y. With the likes of Mega Evolutions and the addition of a Fairy-type, there’s a lot of change that longtime players have a lot to look forward to. Having some incite into the ideology behind the names, however, will at least give excited fans a glimpse into the deeper themes of the new Pocket Monster titles.
