This may not go so well with Indian population. Sales of physical PC games in Western markets may have declined over the years, but India still depends on the DVD because of the lack of the infrastructure necessary to make it possible to download the gigabytes of data, that too for a vast, PC-playing majority.
It is one of the many odd moves that EA have experimented with, in this region recently. Just last year, the price of PC games in India was raised by EA to match with the global price point of $60. In India, most games retail for around $16, so it obviously had severe repercussions. Twitter was buzzing with Indian gamers, protesting about the price hike. Neither was it so fruitful for EA’s sales, with retailers stating that even usual steady sellers such as Need For Speed: Rivals did not sell past their first shipment in the country.
