While Disney’s most notable outing within the gaming industry has been the smash success of the previously mentioned Kingdom Hearts, the animation juggernaut has often created games surrounding its own characters with a more light-hearted tone. Disney recently announced its crossover kart-racing game Disney Speedstorm would be coming to PlayStation and Xbox, and Disney has a long history of popular licensed games based on franchises like Aladdin and The Lion King. Now, Disney Dreamlight Valley brings together Disney franchises into a mix of life simulation and adventure.

Disney officially revealed Disney Dreamlight Valley Wednesday through a new official YouTube channel for the game. Dreamlight Valley is presented as a mix of an Animal Crossing-esque life simulation along with several elements of adventure games from exploring a wide variety of unique locales to gathering resources and solving puzzles. Players will be able to fully customize their character’s appearance and design their home, as well as interact and possibly accept quests for characters from franchises like Frozen, The Lion King, Moana, and more.
While the trailer mostly sticks to Disney’s expected bright and vibrant colors and happy motif with scenes like cooking with Ratatouille’s Remy and fishing with Goofy, the trailer’s opening also makes reference to a potential darker tone relating to many of the franchise’s iconic villains. Only The Little Mermaid’s Ursula is shown within the trailer, though the specific highlighting of Disney’s “most villainous” seems to imply the game will feature a wider cast of recognizable antagonists to interact with. No release date was given for Disney Dreamlight Valley, although it was revealed to be coming to most major platforms.
The reveal of Disney Dreamlight Valley comes as many of Disney’s most recognizable gaming franchises are gearing up for the future. Square-Enix made waves earlier this month when it officially announced Kingdom Hearts 4 with a trailer showing off gameplay and Sora’s newest redesign. Disney’s upcoming mobile game Mirrorverse was recently announced to be fully releasing this June, and Disney Speedstorm is also set to release later this year. Disney Dreamlight Valley will add to a strong lineup of Disney games coming throughout the rest of 2022.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
