In order to get the best possible ending, players need to save all the humans, but some animal lovers might be wondering if they can also save the pooch. There is an option to kill the dog to keep him quiet, but some players might rightfully not want to murder the pup from the clutches of the horror hotel.

Connie the Dog

Connie is the doggie companion of some previous visitors to the murder hotel. Without his family to keep him safe, the poor dog has found himself lost on the murder island alone. Jamie and Kate, if they are both still alive, come across this brave little pooch after getting out of the maze late in the game.

The Halloween-style murderer in The Devil in Me is onto them, and the dog just might bark to give away their position. If one of the characters is in the room with Connie, they will pick up a broken bottle and hold it to the dog’s neck.

What Happens if the Dog Lives?

If players have saved both Kate and Jamie so far from all the possible deaths that could have befallen them, both Kate and Jamie will be in this cutscene. If they are both around, players do not have to kill Connie, and he can live to bark another day. Here is how the scene plays out if the reused The Devil in Me face model Jamie chooses to save the pup.

What Happens If You Kill the Dog?

So what happens if you do choose to kill the dog in The Devil in Me? Thankfully, it is not shown on screen, but players will still hear the dog’s final whines. If players choose to kill the dog, then the murderer will come into the room anyway, and he will drive an axe through Jamie’s skull.

This may not be the same if either Jamie or Kate is dead in this scene, however, so make sure to keep everyone alive as long as possible.

In order to save everyone, the dog included, keeping him alive is the best possible choice. It’s one positive thing about the experience of the murder house: no one kills the dog in this game.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
